What does 'Zot' even mean?

'Zot' is the Anteater victory cheer! It's also the sound that Peter the Anteater makes when he snaps out his tongue to catch his food.

We are honored to host the Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr. on Friday, Sept. 8, as part of the 2017 Chancellor’s Distinguished Speakers Series, UCI’s new Confronting Extremism Initiative, and the School of Law’s colloquium series "Hate in a Period of Political Turmoil."

The event, "Charlottesville: A Defining Moment in America," will be a fireside-style discussion between the prominent civil rights activist and two-time presidential candidate and Michele Goodwin, Chancellors Professor of law at UCI.

Over the past 40 years, Jackson has played a pivotal role in U.S. movements for empowerment, peace, civil rights, gender equality, and economic and social justice. In this talk, he will describe the compounding tragedy of Charlottesville, Virginia, as a defining moment in American history, similar to foundational civil rights struggles in Selma and Birmingham, Alabama. He will speak on the rise of hate, including hate crimes and the mainstreaming of hate groups, and focus on the contemporary desecration of synagogues and mosques, the burning of historically black churches, and the deaths of Heather Heyer and individuals perceived as Muslim.

RSVP early, as we expect this event to fill up quickly.
