Noted Harvard psychologist, Mahzarin Banaji, will keynote at the Institute for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion, beginning at 10 a.m. on September 9, 2021.
Professor Banaji’s pioneering research with Anthony Greenwald coined the phrase "implicit bias," examining the surprising, and sometimes perplexing ways in which we make errors in assessing and evaluating others when we recruit and hire, onboard and promote, lead teams, and other actions that we undertake on behalf of our clients and the public we serve. Dr. Banaji is a Richard Clarke Cabot Professor Ethics in the Department of Psychology at Harvard University, and member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. She joins us at UCI to present on the "Hidden Biases of Good People," followed by a live question and answer session.
The afternoon session of the Institute will feature a facilitated conversation with UCI experts focused on building resiliency in the upcoming year. Panelists include: Assistant Vice Chancellor Edgar Dormitorio (Student Affairs), UCI Staff Assembly Chair Amanda Garcia-Hall (Public Health), and Academic Senate Chair Joanna Ho (Paul Merage School of Business).
WHAT: Institute for Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
WHEN: Two sessions – 10 a.m.-12 p.m. and 12:45 p.m.-2 p.m.
