What does 'Zot' even mean?

'Zot' is the Anteater victory cheer! It's also the sound that Peter the Anteater makes when he snaps out his tongue to catch his food.

November 12 - 13, 2021

Claire Trevor Theatre

Experience the magic of audio performances with six plays written by UCI students and alums, directed by UCI undergrad and graduate students.

"Audio theater" has been known by many names and has been around for a long time (some say the late 1800s). A quick definition is that these are plays that are conveyed purely through sound—the voice, the music, the sound effects, etc. They had their first rush of popularity through radio and now have a renewed appeal and accessibility through podcasts. Some shows are presented live (and therefore may have some visual effect) and others are produced completely in the studio. But audio theater plays share the common emphasis on sound and the imagination.

This series of six shows are diverse in their themes and characters. Each creative team will be making unique choices for how to best share the story. They’ll be offered as a show that will run about two hours and will be presented live on the stage of the Claire Trevor Theatre from November 11 to November 13. Then after the run, we’ll be sharing the recordings—highlighting one show at a time.

We look forward to sharing these vibrant aural worlds with you as we return to the stage in the fall.
