Telecommuting at UCI - Overview

Summary: Telecommuting, or working from home or a distant location, is available to UCI employees after consultation with their supervisors.

Definition
  • Telecommuting occurs when an employee works from home or another location other than the usual campus site designated as the telecommuting site.
  • It need not affect an employee’s regular work schedule and telecommuting can be a full time (40 hours a week) or occasional (one or more days a week) arrangement.
  • Telecommuting can occur in conjunction with a flex schedule.
  • A telecommuting arrangement can be specified and in place for a short term, long term or as an accommodation for a medical condition.
  • Successful telecommuting arrangements are carefully thought out and expectations have been well communicated to all parties involved.

Employees may initiate the request to telecommute with their supervisor.
